Coral Island Sea Walking

Our last day in Thailand we have spent on Coral Island. To be honest, it wasn’t our first choice, but after a week we were running out of stuff to do. Since we don’t enjoy just lying by a beach for extended periods of time we were looking for another activity day.

So we booked a half day tour to Coral Island with the tour operator Nikorn. We got picked up at 11, the port was only a 20min drive away, close to the famous Buddha statue at th Southern part of the island.

We unfortunately then had to wait about 40min in quite a dirty place for the boat to arrive.

The island itsself was quite nice, but very crowded.

Only a very small part of the sea was dedicated for snorkelling, there were too many boats for swimming to be safe. We then went onto another wee boat to get a little bit further out to do sea walking. We have never done it before so it was a cool experience. This activity was paid for before so we had not too much waiting time which was good. We were not allowed to even bring our sunglasses on board of the ship because of lack of space (ever seen a boat small enough to not be able to fit a pair of sunnies?) but ok, we just went with it.

Below the water someone had basically chucked some corals, built some metal railing and attached some food to the railing to attract fish. Soulds quite lame, but it has done the job, we saw lots of fish, even Nemo and Dori.

Sea walking itsself is awesome because you can breathe normally and don’t have to worry about floating away. That way we could focus on taking pictures and videos with our GoPro, so – not too shabby 🙂

After about 25min this experience was over so we got brought back to the beach where we met a really nice Canadian girl we hung out with for the rest of the day. We even got some tea, fruit and biscuits in the afternoon which was nice.

All in all: the sea walking was cool, the island overrated and the tour for the most part pretty unorganized. But hey, we still had a good time – it was warm and sunny after all, which you really learn to appreciate when living in Scotland 😉

This is the tour we booked – should have read the reviews before we booked:
